The Internet and Relationships
by Chazz Azz
I call this segment, The Internet and Relationships.
You know I have been online a long time and I'm not saying that everyone has the same experience but I do know from my own experiences that there are many many similarities we all share if we spend any time at all online. Now some of you might not agree with this but, as a footnote, and not only a footnote, but a guarantee, I will say this: inevitably technology seems to be used too often for the wrong things; such is the case here in many ways. I will tell you why I say this. Technology seems to speed things forward. I will say it again. Technology seems to speed things forward. It has a way of speeding things up in an unnatural way.
Someone might say well this is great. Technology is supposed to make things quicker and easier. Well that may be good for some things: balancing a checkbook, printing documents or finding information in a hurry. Yet, when it comes to relationships, this is not good. Speed is not good for relationships. Fast forward is not good for relationships especially when you're trying to establish one.
I want to show you what I feel are interesting points and these are things that I haven't read. These are things that I've not only witnessed but probably experienced all of them first hand over the years online.
Number 1.
It's tied to what I said a moment ago. The speed issue. Too much can happen too quick. I'll give you a good example. A person goes online to a chat room and they start meeting people. It can work several ways. If you're not approaching people, people are approaching you. They are not approaching you to wait on you at the liquor store or the McDonald's in a professional venue. Instead, it is completely unnatural in its' rhythm, its' speed, as well as its' effects. In real life it never happens unless you're Kim Kardashian or you look like her. Think of it this way: its' like trying to decide which car to by from 6 salesmen at the same time, from 3 different car lots.
Number 2.
A person doesn't have to be accountable for their actions. Now we can argue the point but in a general sense, a person doesn't have to be accountable for their actions and I might add, they don't have to go through a natural screening process. That in itself just fuels the fast forward problem. You know as people we sometimes too often want to run from our problems. I do it myself. The Internet has an uncanny way of not only allowing you time to run but it also sucks you in. Also I wanna say this. If you have a relationship issue in real life, the worst thing you can do to yourself and your relationship is go to a chat room. The fact is, you still have the same issues online as you do in real life. Now we can argue that point but I don't think it's necessary.
I want to make a suggestion. If you need to find a companion for a relationship, meet them in real time first and communicate if you have to online afterwards.
The bottom line is this: when you meet someone online, the only thing you can be sure of knowing about them is knowing nothing about them.
Keep the faith. More will be revealed .
